September 3: Interest Meeting
Saw lots of fresh faces to welcome and assure they will never be the weirdest in the room. We also discussed everything JCL is and will do this year. Definitely featured light perching and Allison's pro shake-making skills.

Missed the meeting? No sweat. The future gathering schedule and everything you need to know from our first meeting is on the powerpoint below.

Freshman & Sophomore Orientations
Hung out with those zany officers, thespians, and our fearless sponsor, Mr. Rosa, and saw tons of epic new faces to welcome.

For what more could we ask?

Officer Game Day
No one can be "board" when playing games with leaders this cool. Your officers have been hard at work planning for the next year, but we have fun while we do it too!

NJCL Classicalia
April 2021
featuring Kahoot, Scribble, Among Us & more

April 13: Ludi
If you happen to be walking by Lakebottom, carrying a picnic blanket, mask, a package of INDIVIDUALLY packaged food products, and your Latin spirit, you never know what can happen, especially between 3:45 and 5:00pm. I highly recommend looking at the benches between the junior parking lot and the stairs. There may or may not have been pool noodles involved...who's to say about these things?

ALIRA Testing
A new annual Latin test. Tiered rankings, biliteracy seal opportunity. Let's go.
Saw some smarties on exam day! ALIRA tests were administered the week after spring break. So proud of everyone who tested! You all did brilliantly and had fun (especially with the picture questions)

Madeline Miller e-field trip: March 2021
Ms. Miller provided some illuminating discussion of Circe and the classical myths, especially the Odyssey. She talked about the narcissism of the gods and the nature of divinity, as well as the importance of perspective. I especially enjoyed her kaleidoscope analogy. Other students enjoyed "her summary of the Telegony, which was...interesting" and her decision "to make Odysseus's part as small in Circe as her part was in the Odyssey". While our favorite parts differ, we are united in looking forward to our *predicted* enjoyment of a Cassandra book and our fervent support of Ms. Miller in all her future endeavors. She couldn't have a more grateful audience and fan-base than our CHS JCL nerds :)

GJCL Open Certamen: January 30th

This open tournament was a fun social event. Since signups were individual, teams were randomly assigned. Members from our chapter had an opportunity to get to know some other GJCLers while practicing the hit event of Latin Trivia: Certamen.
