About Us

Latin Clubs

JCL is a great way to engage in the classics community and find a CHS family of lifelong friends, whether or not you're in Latin. Everyone is welcome to join as we connect through events, competitions, and meetings.  We're here for the supporting each other with Roman-esque zeal. The two main GJCL events that the CHS chapter takes part in are Fall Forum and JCL State Convention. There are classics-themed workshops, sporting events, and spirit competitions, as well as social events, like Certamen games, talent shows, movie nights, and Roman toga exhibitions. JCL meetings are fun affairs with socialization and Latin activities. Throughout the year, we compete in National tests, such as the etymology exam, the National Latin exam, the mythology exam, and the Latin ALIRA where we can put our classics skills to the test without (grade) pressure.

NLHS is the Latin Honor Society. This is where we explore Latin topics that piqued our curiosity, but that we don't have enough time to cover in class. We are a service oriented chapter, so we participate in community events, like peer tutoring. We have mini-lectures, Latin review days, and a book of the month. The best part of CHS Latin is most assuredly the welcoming community where it is acceptable to randomly start chanting or dress in a toga. We form friendships and connections that last beyond our high school years.
